From our modest beginnings with one tanker managed by a husband and wife team, CountyClean Group has become a major provider in London and the South East with the ability to offer a fast and reactive, complete waste management solution and an unparalleled level of service that is second to none.
Here Mike Walker, the company’s founder tells the story of how CountyClean Group started and what he has in store for the business…
In May 2007, my wife Debbie and I arrived at our new premises for CountyClean Environmental Services Ltd with a five year old tanker and our first job booking, so I jumped in the tanker and began our very first customer relationship. Since then we have become CountyClean Group – a multi-million pound turnover business, rapidly approaching 40 staff over two locations and a growing fleet of almost 20 commercial vehicles.
Right from the very start, we have reinvested all profits back into the company as we understand that the key to being successful is not just to employ people and buy more equipment, but to make sure that we had the right people and quality equipment. As the industry is very small and quite specialist and as we work in a service industry, we are only measured on two things: cost and level of service. Getting the balance right has been critical and key to our success over the years.
Over the years we have developed and expanded our service offering in tune with our client requirements and as such we have secured a number of imperative accreditations, such as Alcumus SafeContractor, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Achilles and FORS Gold, meaning that we can serve any sized client and win tenders with large contractors and local authorities alike.
For example, our pump services division for domestic and commercial clients was created due to repair and service work requested on sewage treatment plants and pump stations in addition to emptying them. For us, this was a logical step up in our service offering, but we needed to ensure that any new service we offered continued to deliver the same quality of customer experience we are known for and that our customers expected.
The success of this division has now led on to the launch of our groundworks and civil engineering division, again, due to customers asking us if we could install new systems and drainage at their business site or home. Furthermore, the growth of our commercial division has now prompted us to invest in our own waste treatment and recycling facility in Surrey, which allows us to treat certain waste streams we collect ourselves, enabling us to reduce our reliance on third parties. The investment in our new treatment facility has led to us also launching a road sweeper division with state of the art equipment as this seemed to be a logical extension to not just this business but also our liquid waste business.
Additionally, we enjoy developing and promoting our staff from within whilst enabling our teams to progress in their own career development as we expand. Also key to our growth is making sure that, when we start a new division, we attract new staff with the specialist knowledge required to allow us to be successful.
The plan is to continue growing the company extensively over the next five years through significant investment and portfolio expansion, whilst maintaining the level of commitment and service that our clients have come to expect from us and protecting the environment.
When you arrange for us to collect and dispose of your wet waste, after putting the phone down, you can move on to other things safe in the knowledge that you are in good hands.
Everyone at CountyClean Group is ready to react quickly, safely, efficiently, cost-effectively and in compliance with the law: it’s what we do every day.
